The value of property, stocks, and other assets continues to fall in a vicious circle of asset price collapse and fire sales by struggling financial institutions. This leads to a substantial weakening of economic activity and further credit losses. In 2008 the WEF risk team warned of inflation, in 2009 the greater threat is “a deflationary spiral”.
